Required Summer Reading - ALL High School Students

As summer approaches, we all look forward to long afternoons sitting in front of a pool or under the shade of a tree in the backyard. Summer and reading are a natural mix. With this in mind, the high school English department has put together a list of required reading. The books are based on the English class the student will be enrolled in during the 2012 – 2013 school year. The books are:

• English 9 & Enhanced English 9: The House on Mango Street by Sandra

Cisneros

• English 10 & Enhanced English 10: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

• English 11 & Enhanced English 11: The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger

• English 12: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

• AP: Cry, The Beloved Country by Alan Paton

The books will be distributed during lunch on Wednesday May 23, Thursday May 24, and Friday May 25. Please pick-up your book and the guided reading questions during one of these days. If you would like to purchase the book for your personal library or so that you can highlight and annotate, you are encouraged to do so. If you chose to purchase your own book, please still come to the distribution table during lunch to retrieve your guided reading assignment. Please keep in mind that the book is being checked-out to you, and you are expected to return the book on the first day of class. The cost of replacement is $10.00.
